I went to Havana House for an event with one of my favorite cigars, Hermosa Cigars. Hermosa is a boutique cigar and has been around for around two years, if you haven’t heard of them, you soon will. But this review isn’t about Hermosa Cigars, it about Havana House - Alhambra. I love finding new cigar lounges and Havana was a new one for me. It’s been around for some time now (2001) and I understand why it’s still in business. Finding a lounge in Los Angeles with an outdoor patio, FULL BAR and lounge seating is like finding water in the desert... it doesn’t exist but Havana House pulls it off well. I met with Tim, the General Manager, who is a Great guy. We got to sit and chat about cigars and rum, and discussed how well they went together. He was generous enough to create rum flights for me and my companions. With a solid selection of rum, our flights consisted of Flor de Cana 12 and 18, Zaya and Zacapa ...all which go very well with a fine cigar.
The entrance of the lounge has an outdoor covered patio, excellent to sit back with a cold IPA and your favorite stick. As you continue in Havana House, to the right is a full bar, yes FULL BAR. Bar seating and tables to the left with flat screen televisions situated to watch your favorite games. Continuing toward the back is a well-stocked and maintained humidor with lounge seating and an additional register to purchase your favorite smokes. Bathrooms are located in the rear.
The event I attended was in the evening, so as expected the evening crowd began to flow in. Havana House turns into a hip spot with a DJ spinning tunes and ladies flowing in dressed to impress. Don’t let that fool you, this is still a cigar lounge the difference is everyone has a stick in hand and hanging around the bar drinking, smoking and some even getting their groove on.
The waitresses are great, they understand that you are here to enjoy yourself so they’ll swing by, joke and chat with you while ensuring your glass is not empty but your ashtray is. I can’t say enough about Tim, the GM. He is very knowledgeable about cigars and rum. I felt like I’ve known him for years, carrying on conversations about our favorite pass time.
Havana House has a well-balanced selection with some boutique cigars worth trying. The humidor is well maintained and every stick I tried was in perfect balance.
Final thoughts are based on whether I’d return or not, Havana House - Alhambra is definitely worth a return visit. When I want to get out, have drinks, a smoke, and eye candy while receiving excellent customer service, Havana House is the place for me.
